In this episode of Chief Life, I sit down with our ambassador, Rob Downton (aka Bobby Dee), to find out what it really takes to be a hybrid athlete. Rob's stats are impressive. He can deadlift 310kg, squat 250kg and also run 100 miles in under 24 hours. He took 2023 2nd place (22 hrs) Kokoda Ultramarathon in PNG.
Rob isn’t just an elite performer; he’s also a chiropractor, a special forces veteran, a performance coach, and a gym owner. Over the years, he has experimented with nearly every diet available, including vegan, vegetarian, low-carb, keto, omnivore, carnivore and now a heavily meat-based omnivore approach.
We cover:
- How each diet impacted his overall health, hormones, sports performance, body composition, mental health and blood markers
- What does it mean to be LDL hyper-responders, also known as lean mass hyper-responders (LMHRs)
- Which diet worked best for performance, physique, and overall well-being
- Why can't he be a strict carnivore, and what does Dr Paul Mason recommend
- How he alters his diet according to sporting events (CrossFit and ultra-running)
If you’re looking for real-world insights on training, nutrition, and performance from someone who’s tested it all, this episode is a must-listen!
